I’ve been taking pictures of gloves found on the street for a long time. I used to think that I was collecting lost gloves. But now I think I’m building a collection of found ones.
Stranded gloves evoque questions about who did it belong to. They also become a chance to notice who moves around and to look at cities in a different way.
This museum of gloves and doodles makes a sad scene also seem like a cute and exciting retrieval. It creates a new meaning for loss, where “the art is not one of forgetting but letting go” (Rebecca Solnit).
Gloves found in Helsinki and Turku between September and December 2021.
